Using Art Files

Scanning Documents
Art Files is a document-based application. Graphics files that need collecting can be brought into one of Art Files documents in one of the following ways:

  1. Select "File > Open" from the menu bar.
  2. Select "Document > Add…" from the menu bar.
  3. Drag the icon of your graphics file(s) into the window of the Art Files document.
  4. Drag the icon of your graphics file(s) onto the application icon of Art Files in the Finder or on your Dock.

After a vaild graphics file has been added to your document, the document is automatically scanned (on by default–can be set in the Preferences). Once scanned, Art Files will display each added document, its linked images and fonts used in the "Document List" (see User Interface). Additional information can be found within the list and in the "Info" drawer.

Checking for Errors
The third column in the "Document List" and the "Status" area of the "Info" section give feedback as to potential warning and errors your document may have that could prevent it from being collected properly. Below is a brief description of each status:

OK The document, its images and fonts are ready for collection.
Scan The document or image should be scanned before proceeding.
Unreliable Scan The document is not a fully supported file format.
Warning One or more of the item's images or fonts has an error.
Error* The document has an error that will prevent it from collecting properly.

*Items of status "Error" will not attempt to be collected. All other items will.

Some errors will require you to modify your document or activate fonts in your system. Make sure to rescan your documents (select "Document > Scan Selected" in the menu bar) after making these changes so Art Files will update its information.

Selecting Which Documents, Images and Fonts Will Be Collected
Use the check box next to each item to indicate which links/fonts you would like collected.

You will also get immediate information by inspecting the "Files List" (see User Interface). This area shows the exact files that will be collected along with each file's size.

Instructions File
Select "Document > Notes" from the menu bar to view the instructions file that will be added to your collection. Information such as notes and contact info can be entered for each Art Files document. Default info can also be set in the Preferences.

Collecting
Once you're ready to collect your documents, select "Document > Collect…" from the menu bar. You will be asked to select a location and name for your collection. Art Files will create a folder with the name you enter and will attempt to collect each of the files shown in the "Files List".
