Sketching

One of biggest features in QTSketch is being able to sketch over movies. This version of QTSketch only has one sketch track, that is always the entire length of the movie. Use the Visual Annotation portion of the Inspector Window control sketching settings.

Switching from Brush tool to Eraser tool

  • Select either the brush or eraser in the Inspector Window.
  • -or-
  • Press the key 'b' to select the brush, or the key 'e' to select the eraser.
  • -or-
  • If your using a tablet, the eraser tool will automatically be selected when you use the eraser end of the stylus.

Changing the Brush Size (or Eraser Size)

  • Use the Brush Size slider in Inspector Window.
  • -or-
  • Press and hold down the key 'b' while moving the mouse right or left to increase or decrease the brush size. (Similarly, use the key 'e' to change the eraser size)

Changing the Brush color

  • In the Inspector Window, click on the color well labeled Brush Color to open the color picker.
  • You can store commonly used colors in the 4 color presets.
    • To set the color of a preset, drag & drop the color from the color picker into the preset.
    • To make a color preset the active brush color, simply click on the preset.

Saving a sketch

After sketching on a movie, you can save it (File->Save, or Cmd-S) to embed the sketch in the movie file. You can close the document, and re-open it later to edit the sketch. Also, the sketch is visible in any Quicktime-based program, so you can share your sketches with people that don't have QTSketch.

Quick Export

  • If you want a grab a still frame from a movie, with your sketch, you can do a Quick Export (File->Quick Export Current Frame or Cmd-E) to easily and quickly create a JPEG on the Desktop.
  • Alternatively, if you hold down the Command key you can drag the movie frame right out of the document window, and drop it anywhere you want (i.e. on your Desktop, into an e-mail, etc..). If you hold down the Option key at the same time, it will export just the sketch, without the movie frame.
